Important
The marriage license fee is paid directly to the county clerk's office at the time of application — not to Elopements Inc. Both partners must apply for the license in person; we cannot obtain the license on your behalf. We walk every couple through the process step by step (which clerk to visit, what to bring, when to go), but the application itself has to be signed by you.

History & architecture
Crescent Moon Ranch is a Coconino National Forest day-use area on Oak Creek, named for the curved meadow at the base of Cathedral Rock. The site has been a Sedona ceremony location since the 1980s and is consistently ranked as the most-photographed Sedona wedding venue. The ranch itself is operated by the U.S. Forest Service with limited daily ceremony permits issued — typically two ceremonies per day during peak season to preserve the experience.
Best photo spots on the property
Creek-side meadow
The signature Cathedral Rock ceremony spot. Cathedral Rock fills the entire upper portion of every ceremony photo, with Oak Creek running through the foreground meadow. Best at sunset (1.5 hours before sundown) when the red rocks glow.
Oak Creek crossing
Shallow creek crossing with red rock walls on both sides. Used for portrait sessions immediately after the ceremony — couples wade barefoot for a 'first walk' set.
Buddha Beach pathway
The hike from the parking area to the meadow passes through stacked-stone cairns and cottonwood trees. The light through the cottonwoods is the most-photographed Sedona 'arrival' set.
Cathedral Rock summit view
From the meadow, Cathedral Rock's southern face dominates the frame. The most flattering portrait orientation is portrait (vertical) to capture the full vertical scale of the rock formation.
Capacity & seating
Coconino National Forest Special Use permits cap ceremonies at 50 guests. Most Elopements Inc. Crescent Moon Ranch ceremonies are 2-20 guests, well within limits. No amplified sound, no chair rentals beyond what fits in the meadow (typically 25 chairs max), no decorations left on site.
Permits & access
Coconino National Forest Special Use Authorization ($150 base permit + per-person fees for groups over 10). Elopements Inc. handles permit application and approval (typical processing 30-60 days). The permit specifies the date, time, exact ceremony spot, and guest count. Couples never file paperwork directly.
Best season for this venue
October-April is peak Sedona season — daytime highs 55-75°F, clean light, dry air. May and September are the photographic peaks for clean sunsets. June-August: ceremonies shift to 7 AM or 7 PM to avoid 95-105°F afternoon highs. December-February: 35-55°F daytime, dramatic with occasional snow on Cathedral Rock (4-6 snow days per winter on average). Snow on red rocks is the most-requested 'lucky' visual.
What makes it different
Crescent Moon Ranch is the only Sedona venue where Cathedral Rock fills the entire backdrop of the ceremony without any photo manipulation. Other Sedona spots (Bell Rock, Yavapai Vista, Airport Mesa) have red rocks in the background, but Cathedral Rock at Crescent Moon is the rock that 'looks like' Sedona to anyone who has ever seen a Sedona photo. The combination of Cathedral Rock + Oak Creek + the meadow makes this the most-recognized red rock ceremony backdrop in the United States.

Crescent Moon Ranch questions
Yes — Crescent Moon Ranch is the access point for the Cathedral Rock backdrop. The Forest Service issues Special Use Authorization for ceremonies in the creek-side meadow at the base of Cathedral Rock. Elopements Inc. handles the permit, the timing, and access as part of every Sedona package.
Crescent Moon Ranch elopements through Elopements Inc. start at $675 (Just Married package) — $100 above other destinations to cover the Coconino National Forest Special Use permit. All packages include the permit, the officiant, professional photography, and Arizona marriage license guidance.
Day-use visitors are present at the parking area and along the creek path, but the Forest Service limits ceremony permits to typically 2 per day. Elopements Inc. books the morning or sunset window when day-use traffic is lowest. The ceremony photos themselves rarely show other people in frame.
Yes. Arizona requires two adult witnesses to sign the marriage license. Elopements Inc. provides the witnesses at no extra cost for couples eloping just the two of them. The witnesses sign the license immediately after the ceremony in the meadow.
