Important
The marriage license fee is paid directly to the county clerk's office at the time of application — not to Elopements Inc. Both partners must apply for the license in person; we cannot obtain the license on your behalf. We walk every couple through the process step by step (which clerk to visit, what to bring, when to go), but the application itself has to be signed by you.

History & architecture
Belmont Mansion is an 1853 Italianate villa originally built as the summer estate of Adelicia Acklen, one of the wealthiest women in 19th-century America. Now operated as a historic house museum by Belmont University, the property preserves its original cast-iron gazebos, marble statuary, period rooms with hand-painted frescoes, and 8 acres of formal gardens. The estate has been a National Historic Landmark since 1971. Elopements at Belmont Mansion access both the interior ceremonial spaces — the Grand Salon, the Tete-a-Tete Parlor, the central hall under the original chandeliers — and the gardens, where the iconic gazebos and statues date back to Adelicia's original design.
Best photo spots on the property
The Grand Salon
Original 1853 frescoes, 14-foot ceilings, and natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows. Best for indoor ceremony photography in late afternoon when the sun angles through the west-facing windows.
Cast-iron gazebos
Two original 1850s cast-iron gazebos in the formal gardens, painted white. The most-photographed Belmont Mansion exterior spot — works in any season but peaks visually in April when the garden blooms.
Marble statuary
Adelicia's original marble statues line the garden paths. The Hebe statue and the Cupid fountain are the two most-requested portrait backgrounds.
Front portico steps
The classical front entrance with Doric columns. The most flattering Belmont Mansion 'arrival' photo and the most common first-look location.
Library
Smaller intimate room with original built-in shelves and period furniture. Best for couples-only portrait sessions where the larger spaces feel too vast.
Capacity & seating
Up to 50 guests seated in the Grand Salon, up to 30 in the gardens with rental chair setup. Elopements Inc.'s smaller packages (2-20 guests) seat in the parlor or use the gazebos without formal chair arrangement. Larger packages add folding chair rentals for the garden ceremony.
Permits & access
Belmont Mansion is a private historic house museum, not a public venue — access requires booking through an approved coordinator. Elopements Inc. holds an ongoing arrangement with Belmont that covers permits, timing, and venue access fees as part of the package price. Couples never deal with Belmont directly.
Best season for this venue
April and October are the photographic peaks — April for garden blooms, October for the surrounding tree color and golden afternoon light through the west windows. May, June, and September are also strong. Mid-summer (July-August) is workable but the gardens look stressed by mid-afternoon. December-February: indoor-only ceremonies; the gardens read as bare in photos.
What makes it different
Belmont is the only Nashville venue where the architecture is the photograph — the 1853 frescoes, the original chandeliers, the marble statuary all read as 'wedding setting' without any decoration or dressing required. Most Nashville venues require florals and decor to feel like a wedding; Belmont was already a wedding setting in 1853.

Belmont Mansion questions
Yes — Belmont Mansion hosts elopements through approved coordinators including Elopements Inc. Yes — the gardens are part of the package access. Most Belmont elopements use the gardens for the ceremony and the interior for portraits, especially in April and October when the gardens are at their photographic peak. Indoor ceremonies are standard in the Grand Salon during winter months.
